Beer and Music Festival In The Heart of The Lakes
This year's Grasmere Guzzler festival was a massive success, even despite the horrendous weather and ensuing mud. Friday started off well with an array of local musicians including the acclaimed WeirdString Trio.
The rain started in earnest on Saturday but didn't put off the army of guzzlers who had come to partake in some fine ales and local food. The wild boar burgers were sold out by the end of lunchtime and a second pig had been ordered for the hog roast for Sunday. Taffy Thomas, the legendary story-teller made himself heard above the noise of the rain on the marquee roof with great success and was followed by music from Kirk McElhinney, The Righteous Bees and Room Full of Mirrors. The night was rounded off with a good natured mud fight from a few of the locals and staff and some mud face painting.
On Sunday we awoke to a complete quagmire and had to come up with a plan B. As the area inside the marquees were completely full off mud we moved the stage and barbeque out into the sunshine, which fortunately had come out for the day. Pete Lashley played a marathon set in the afternoon sunshine while everyone relaxed, enjoyed some more beer and hog-roast. The final night was rounded off with an excellent set from The Indian Postal Service and the beer of the festival announced as Yates - Grasmere Guzzler, as voted for by the customers. By this time the beer was all gone, the pig finished and everyone was ready for bed, with just a thought to spare for the excellent staff and all the cleaning up they would have to do for tomorrow.
See you all next year for an even bigger and better event.
